Cuneo and the Alps

Surrounded by an imposing alpine landscape, Cuneo sits by the mountains and enjoys moderate temperatures even through the summer. It frequently serves as a base camp for hikes and treks up the neighboring mountains, though it offers its own attractions right on the town as well.
A relatively quiet place, even the main town square of Piazza Galimberti finds itself quiet most of the time, save for Tuesdays when a large market is held there. For a more festive atmosphere, try the main avenues of Via Roma and Corso Nizza, where eight kilometers of various shops line up next to olden architectural edifices (some of which have also been turned into arcades). The old part of the city hosts a medieval area full of interesting establishments, including some fine restaurants and cafes.
Excursions going into the mountains are chief in the itinerary for most visitors to this small city. A short drive behind the wheel of your car hire to the south of Cuneo should lead you to a world-class ski resort. Alpine activities such as rock climbing, hiking and mountain biking are also much sought after.
